Grand Theft Auto is a video game series I am destined to keep on buying. I don’t mean that when a new one comes out I buy it. I mean I buy several copies of the same game. It’s like I have a problem or something.

GTA 3 for example. I bought it on PC. I did the same with Vice City. I purchased San Andreas for the Playstation 2 when it was released. Then I bought all 3 again, together in the trilogy collection on PC. It wasn’t just for funzies though. I wanted San Andreas on PC and at the time this was the only way to get it.

Before that though, I bought a second copy of San Andreas on PS2 because the first one was left uncased in a drawer by my brother and the disc got snapped in half. The worst part about that was it happened during the recall of the initial release due to the Hot Coffee incident. That meant we had to wait for the re-release to play it again.

When GTA IV came out I only had a PS3 at the time. Naturally I got the collectors edition. But then I got an Xbox 360. I needed to buy it again so I could play online with my brother. Then I went ahead and borrowed a PC copy from work and lost a disc before I returned it. This meant I had to buy that. I still also wanted to play it on PC, so a few years later I bought the Complete Collection on Steam, which included both expansions which I’d also previously bought on the 360.

Then came the Mobile versions of each game. Put another mark next to GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas…

Enter GTA V. Xbox 360 was the logical console choice here. I would be able to play online with my brother and friends. I haven’t finished the story yet and my gold subscription ran out recently so I haven’t been able to play online. I want to play through the rest of the story mode but E3 went ahead and ruined that for me with the announcement of the game coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. There’s no need for me to finish the game on the 360 when I’m going to get the improved PS4 version. And there’s no point renewing Gold to play online if I need to get PS+ for the new version.

No doubt some time next year I’ll probably want it in PC too. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.
