A real life RPG meets Tactical Espionage Action

Today I was made aware of a website designed to encourage the forming good habits. It is HabitRPG.

More than just a basic app or orgaiser, HabitRPG incorporates RPG elements to motivate you and help you succeed. My first thought was “Hey, this is an awesome idea! I’m totally gonna do it!” but then I realised something…

The Adventure is Over: How Working in a Video Game Store Ended It – Part 1

Video games are something I enjoy greatly. Especially when there is an amazing narrative involved. Gameplay is king and nice graphics help too. Being able to immerse one’s self into a world of escapism for an unmetered amount of hours is an amazing thing. But for me, that’s not all there is to video games.

The lead up to getting a game used to be an adventure. The event of getting a game used to be an adventure. From reading about upcoming releases in magazines to booting the game in the console and all the events in-between is what used to make the adventure for me.

But… Working in a video game store took that away.

The Adventure is Over: How Working in a Video Game Store Ended It – Part 2

The new era of adventures kicked in, but I can’t remember what came first, Game Boy Advance or Gamecube. I got My Gamecube at launch but not the GBA. I would check the receipt for the date that I purchased it, but it’s in the GBA box in the roof right now. I’ll lead with GBA though, as it was a split second decision to buy it, yet a mini adventure of it’s own.

It was 2001, I was 16 and I had a job at the local pizza place, so I had a bit of coin. We were in the city for some reason, and were in Toys R Us. They had a huge display of GBAs

The Adventure is Over: How Working in a Video Game Store Ended It – Part 3

2005 comes along and I’ve been out of school for a few years. I was working, so I wasn’t short a buck and Nintendo were about to release the handheld innovation, the Nintendo DS. After hearing rumours from an announcement that the new system would have two screens, reading about it in magazines, searching everyday on the internet and finally seeing the thing unveiled at E3, you could say I was a little bit excited.

Ryan and I both had pre-orders at EB Games in the city. I’m 99% certain I was meant to be at TAFE the day the machine came out, but I decided that this was far more important than doing what I was meant to be doing… Working on a website and video promotional package for Camp Quality… A charity foundation for kids with cancer…

The Adventure is Over: How Working in a Video Game Store Ended It – Part 4

Just under two years later, it’s time for the Wii to launch in Australia. The Wii was my last real adventure. It was also a solo adventure. I had moved out from living with Ryan and was now living with my girlfriend in a place of our own. As always, I was very excited by the new console from Nintendo. This would mark the third home console by the big N that I would be buying with my own money on launch day.

My Games of the Year – Part 2

I don’t have the time to take all the games I’ve enjoyed this year, line them up and compare them to one another, weighing up the differences in styles and gameplay, then trying to justify reasons as to why one of them is my most favourite. Heck no. So Instead I’m just writing about all of my favourite games this year and why they are awesome! Some of them I have finished and others I haven’t. Most of them I sucked at. Because I am wanting to be unbiased and don’t want to rank one game better than the other, I used a random generator to determine the order of which to write about.

antichamber

I have no idea where I discovered Antichamber. I think I might have read something about it on a website like Kotaku. I do know that I didn’t watch any videos or read any reviews of the game. I pretty much got the game and started playing.
